Hon. Peter Kenilorea Jr. attended and participated in the 6th Asia Pacific Parliamentarian Forum on Global Health (APPFGH) in his capacity as a parliamentarian and a member of the National Parliament of Solomon Islands Health and Medical Services Committee. The forum occurred on the 24th and 25th August 2022.

                                                             

‘It was an honour for me to be able to attend the forum in person on behalf of the Chair and members of the Health and Medical Services Committee to discuss global health related matters of importance to the Asia Pacific region with other regional parliamentarians. ’, Hon. Kenilorea stated.

 

The APPFGH is a platform for parliamentarians to exchange ideas, build political support, strengthen capacities and foster collaboration in driving sustainable action for health.

 

Established in 2015 with technical support from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Forum is open to the 30 countries comprising the Member States of the WHO Western Pacific Region and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

 

The Forum aims to enable countries to achieve health objectives under the Sustainable Development Goals through a whole-of-government approach.

    

Hon. Kenilorea stated that, ‘the meeting reaffirmed the important role that parliaments play in strengthening health security and investing in stronger health systems for countries in the Asia Pacific region’.

 

The theme of the Sixth Forum Meeting was Strengthening Health Security and Building Resilience for the Future. It was hosted by the Health and Welfare Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea with support from the Korean Parliamentarian Forum on Global Health and the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

 

Hon. Kenilorea Jr joined discussions in the various sessions throughout the two days’ meeting and welcomed and acknowledged the leadership shown by South Korea during the COVID pandemic and in a time when everyone is adjusting to living with COVID.

He returned on 27th August 2022.
