The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Hon. Douglas Ete recently participated in the Development Finance Assessment (Mission 2) for Solomon Islands.

The consultation was co-facilitated by the Ministry of Development Planning & Aid Coordination and the United Nations Development Program.

The Development Finance Assessment (DFA) and Integrated Financing Solution (Addis Ababa Action Agenda 30) process, is a policy tool to ensure that all National Governments work effectively with its key stakeholders to develop and strengthen an integrated and holistic approach towards financing the National Development targets across all Public and Private sectors, including the Civil Society.

The DFA methodology is a response to a demand from countries across the Asia- Pacific region and beyond, to rally support for policy and institutional reforms that will help the government to be more effective in managing its financing policy for the sustainable development goal results.

The consultation hopes to establish a financial landscape (evidence based scenarios) by which the National Development Strategy (NDS) 2016-2035 and the SDGs at the national level, ought to be funded.

Findings from this consultation hopes to aid the structuring of a financing framework; as well as setting a coherent financial roadmap together for donor partners and Solomon Islands, which will be headed by the Ministry of Development Planning & Aid Coordination on the said NDS 2016- 2035 and the SDGs.

Hon. Ete indicate his contentment for the government’s approach in incorporating the SGDs with the NDS, however strongly emphasized that legislations are paramount to achieving these goals.
