PARLIAMENT ADJOURNS TO 30TH OCT 2017

TUESDAY 24TH OCTOBER 2017

The current 6th meeting of this 10th Parliament is again adjourned to 30th October 2017 to give time for cabinet to tidy up the 2018 budget estimates.

Other reasons as stated by the Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, are to give time for the Bills and Legislation Committee to complete its report on the Strata Bills 2017 and for the Committee to continue with its hearings into the Citizenship Bill 2017 and the Constitution (Amendment) (Dual Citizenship) Bill 2017 this week.

The Prime Minister added that there are also a number of Bills coming through this meeting, including the Anti-Corruption Bill.

Leader of the Opposition Group, Hon. Jeremiah Manele said he had no objections to the motion but suggest that future governments need to improve on having a Legislative calendar so that Parliament knows when to hold hearings and to avoid too many adjournments during a meeting session.

Leader of Independent Group, Hon. Dr. Derek Sikua also supported the motion.

Meanwhile, other Bills currently before the House now, are:

  1. The Whistleblowers Protection Bill 2017
  2. The Legal Profession Bill 2017
  3. The Prescription of Ministers (Amendment) Bill 2017.
  4. The Strata Titles Bill 2017
  5. The Citizenship Bill 2017
  6. The Constitution (Amendment) (Dual Citizenship) Bill 2017

Parliament Meeting will resume on 30th October 2017.
