National Youth Parliamentarians 2016.

Speaker of the National Parliament of Solomon Islands, Ajilon Jasper Nasiu declares the National Youth Parliament (NYP) opens and wishes all student particpants a successful event.

Ajilon declares the event open at his opening statement at the Paul Tovua Complex on Monday and he further welcome the students during the welcome dinner at the Heritage Park Hotel in Honiara.

He said, on Monday morning he had observed with interest on youth Parliamentarians who represent some of the most remote constituencies in the country.
The Speaker gave an example of a young man from Lata Community High School who represents Temotu Province, likewise a young girl from John Bosco Seconadry School of Nila Catholic Station, who represents the Shortland Constituency.

He said the presence of these young men and women demonstrates the willingness and commitment of Parliament and Ministry of Women, Youth, and Family Affairs to organise this program since 2009.

This week, youth parliamentarians will participate in a wide range of parliamentary processes. They will conduct a public inquiry and debate a motion on youth unemployment which states, “National Youth Parliament resolves that the Government establishes a nationl body to coordinate, facilitate and enhance youth involvement and participation in employment and decision making process.”

The Speaker concluded by thanking the following key partners for making this event possible:
• Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs
• Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development
• Ministry of Rural Development
• Ministry of Commerce, Industries, Labour and Immigration
• Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce & Industries
• School Principals and respective Provicial and Church Education Authorities
• Solomon Islands Broadcasting Cooperation and
• Solomon Telekom

Today Youth Parliamentarians were introduced to the National Parliament Chamber and chamber proceedings and get involve in committee inquiries.
The debate on the proposed Youth Parliamentary motion on youth unemplyment will commence.
